The Biggin Hill Airshow is all part of being a good cadet and taking part in community events. These events allow a cadet to have a great day out and meet lots of other cadets whilst also helping their community.
9 cadets & 3 staff from Lewisham went along to Biggin Hill Airport to help out with the Airshow this year.
Approximately 160 cadets from across the South East attended the show and helped out over the weekend.
Cadets start their duties at around 7am with a roll call and briefings of the days activities. They are then split into groups, assigned staff and have breakfast before their day starts.
Cadet jobs involve guarding static aircraft such as the helicopters on display tis year. This prevents any visitors climbing on the aircraft or injuring themselves.
Other duties include preventing the public from walking across the active taxiway when aircraft are moving around. Fundraising for the RAF Benevolent Fund is also a challenging activity.
After the airshow, the cadets then walk the airfield to check for litter or dangerous objects.
The world-famous Festival of Flight at London Biggin Hill on the 17th & 18th August had awe inspiring displays. Cadets watched the RAF Typhoon Jet Fighter, Breitling Jet Team and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. Twelve multi aircraft teams, a total of 49 aircraft took to the skies at London’s only air show.
Over 30,000 people from far and wide attend the annual event to enjoy a weekend full of adrenaline-charged aerial entertainment and family fun in the showground.
